B-FORMAT VIDEO TAPE RECORDERs - (Darmstadt)
BCN 52/53 VTR
The BCN 52/53 which has been developed by BTS (bereits in 1974 !!) combines for the first time the well known advantages of the B format with equipmentfeatures, which up till now were not possible with segmented recording.
Continuous operation from slow motion to normal speed can only be achieved in other formats with the aid of moveable heads and the drawbacks that this entails - short head life, limited duration for still frames.
The BCN 52/53 makes it possible, by using the latest storage technology, to cover a continuous slow motion range from 0.25 reverse to normal playback speed forwards, without reducing the excellent B format head life.
The bandwidth of the buffer store used guarantees high picture definition when the transition to slow motion is made. As still frames are stored electronically they can be displayed for an unlimited period of time without tape demage.
Another new feature is separate video head monitoring, which is included as standard. It enables the picture quality to be assessed during recording. The extra video heads considerably increase the system's operating reliability, as the second pair of heads takes over playback in the case of a breakdown.
.
• Slow motion range from 0.25 reverse to full playback speed forwards-with high resolution
• Visible search in black/white, up to 12 times normal speed forward and reverse
• No playback time limit on electronically stored still frames
• Separate head confidence monitoring of video and audio quality during recording
• Choice of remote control interfaces: parallel, fully compatible with the BCN 41/51; serial two-wire connection to select two different slave machines;

.

TELECINE EQUIPMENT
FDL-60CCDTelecine
The FDL 60 has many features that make it superior to conventional film scanners.
The FDL 60 is a telecine without tubes
It uses new generation long life CCD line sensors eliminating burn-in and lag problems. Each frame is scanned only once, line sequentially and without deflection voltages, so field flicker cannot occur and the vertical resolution is absolutely constant.
The result is first class picture quality with high resolution, excellent signal to noise ratio and brillant colour rendition allowing even those red hues to be faithfully reproduced.
Capstan drive and digital signal processing provide entirely new operational modes
Slow motion and fast motion, forward and reverse, and freeze frame are all in excellent quality. Finding scenes or single frames is made easy by the variable programmable search facility and step mode - with full format colour pictures. Start and stop are instant and frame accurate and the deck can handle film lengths up to 1200 metres.
The FDL 60 dramatically reduces costs
The digital signal processing needs no maintenance and the CCD sensors are free from wear with typical semiconductor reliability and operating life. Forget about drifting circuitry, expensive tube changes and line up problems.

TELECINE EQUIPMENT
FDGR Film Grain Reducer
The film grain reducer reduces the visibility of film grain noise. It is a fully digitised unit with an ECL-interface for the in- and outsignal. In principle the FDGR is a recursive filter with a frame store. A part of the output signal is fed back to the input. The ratio of the direct signal to the delayed signal defines the grain/noise reduction. An automatic circuit, measuring the input noise as well as the movement in the picture signal, optimises the signal to noise ratio and prevents smearing and lag effects at moving pictures.

FGS 4500 - Satellite Rendering Workstation
The rendering workstation is a standalone system for offloading rendering work in video resolution and variable high resolution for use in other mediums. By off-loading the rendering process it increases the throughput of the FGS network by providing simoultaneous motion design and rendering. This results in considerable time saving as the FGS 4500 is only needed for a short time to record the frames to tape.
For quality printed materials a resoloution of 4000 lines is often required. The satellite renderer creates anti-aliased images with resolution variable from 64 to 4000 lines. The higher resolutions are stored onto magnetic tape which can be read by a film recorder to create the final image. The satellite is linked with the FGS 4500 via ETHERNET.
