INTRODUCTION (im Original-Text)

The term CCTV (Closed Circuit Television) means different things to different individuals. - To many people think, CCTV means surveillance, especially in security usage. It permits one individual to watch one or many remote areas. With the development of new low-light cameras, surveillance is now possible under poor lighting conditions.

In addition to security, CCTV can also be used in other surveillance situations. CCTV can watch several patients at one time in a hospital recovery room. It can monitor traffic flow, in subways or on highways. It can spot instant breakdowns on production lines. It can safeguard children playing on a schoolground.

CCTV is an all-observing guardian, faithfully on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. To others, CCTV is related to special sporting events or other presentations which are not normally telecast over the regular television channels.

The program is directed to a specific viewing audience, which can vary in number from just a few individuals to large groups who see the program at special locations. Among the more recent application of CCTV is Cable Television which permits viewing special programs without commercial interruptions. Still another area of CCTV is communications.

It is valuable for training individuals in all types of work: nurses, mechanics, postal clerks, maids, teachers, firemen, pilots, assembly workers, etc. And it can also serve to relay messages or presentations from corporate headquarters to branch offices.

The basic CCTV system consists of a camera and a monitor which is similar to a television set. The camera picks up the image and transmits it to the monitor at another location for viewing. The system can be expanded to include special equipment and accessories; these will be discussed in a later chapter.

B) SYSTEM COMPONENTS
1. SEQUENTIAL SWITCHERS

.

  • WJ-506N, WJ-507N (110 ~ 120VAC models)
  • WJ-506E, WJ-507E (220 ~ 240VAC models)

.

WJ-506/WJ-507

Sequential switchers are excellent system components for multi-camera security systems. WJ-506 accepts up to six camera inputs; WJ-507 can be used with up to ten cameras.

WJ-506/WJ-507 have two video outputs: sequence and spot monitor. The sequence output displays each camera in sequence. The spot monitor output permits manual selection of any camera for display on a second monitor. The automatic bypass feature of these switchers skips any input with no video signal present; manual selection of bypass is also possible. The length of time each camera displayed during the sequence is manually adjustable froml to 30 seconds. Timing is also controlled externally. A trigger pulse output permits one switcher to control the timing of another unit.

A 12-pin connector at the rear permits selection of the spot monitor output from other equipment. The 12-pin connector also mates with the WJ-800 time/date generator to display the number of the camera input as well as date and time. They can be rackmounted into a standard 19" rack.
.

.

  • WJ-510N (110 ~ 120VAC model)
  • WJ-510E (220 ~ 240VAC model)

.

WJ-510

Deluxe model WJ-510 is an auto alarming sequential switcher. It has all the features of WJ-506, plus alarm mode. It is an ideal mate for the NV-8030time lapse VTR. In addition to six camera inputs, WJ-510 has six input for alarm sensors, such as door, window or mat switches, etc. Each sensor controls one camera. When a sensor is activated, the sequential output automatically switches to that camera and holds on it. A front panel buzzer indicates the alarm condition.

An alarm output, for use with the NV-8030, activates the VTR alarm mode - the VTR changes from low speed to normal speed. WJ-510 stays in the alarm mode until it is reset manually, externally or automatically. WJ-510 can also reset the VTR alarm mode to return the NV-8030 to its low speed. It can be rackmounted into a standard 19" rack.
.

2. PASSIVE / ACTIVE SWITCHERS

WJ-200N/WJ-200RN, WJ-205RN

Passive switchers are compact, economical system components for CCTV systems. Six (WJ-200) or twelve (WJ-205) inputs can be switched to a single video output. Switching is performed mechanically. All inputs are terminated with 75 ohm. Standard UHF-type connectors are provided for video inputs and output. Desk-top (WJ-200) or 1-3/4" (44mm)-high 19" rackmount (WJ-200R, WJ-205R) configurations are available.
.

WJ-225RN

.

  • WJ-225RN (110 ~ 120VAC model)
  • WJ-225RE (220 ~ 240VAC model)

.

Active switcher is compact system component for studio CCTV systems. Twelve inputs can be switched to a single video output. Switching is accomplished during the vertical interval. The non-locking pushbuttons light up to show which input has been selected. For added flexibility, inputs are Hi-Z looping with BNC connectors. It can be rackmounted into a standard 19" rack.

.

3. TIME/DATE GENERATOR

.

  • WJ-800N (110 ~ 120V AC model)
  • WJ-800N (110 ~ 120V AC model)

.

WJ-800

WJ-800 is a time/date generator which superimposes the time and date onto any composite video signal. WJ-800 produces white characters with edges outlined in black. Front panel switches control character size (26 or 36 TV lines high) and arrangement of date and time: on the same line or one above the other. Front panel adjustments allow the display to be positioned within 80% of the picture area. When used with sequential switchers (models WJ-506/WJ-507/WJ-510), WJ-800 also displays number of camera input. Time accuracy is determined by the power line. An internal full automatic calendar circuit changes the day, month and year automatically- and even makes allowances for leap years! It can be mounted into 19" rack.
.

4. PULSE GENERATOR & DISTRIBUTOR

.

  • WJ-120N : USA standard
  • WJ-121N : CCIR standard

.

WJ-120N (WJ-121N)

WJ-120N (WJ-121N) is a pulse generator which is designed to generate three each of HD (horizontal drive) and VD (vertical drive) pulses in 2 : 1 interlace. A crystal oscillator is used for the oscillation of drive pulses and MOS IC for the frequency divider circuit. It can be mounted into a standard 19" rack with optional rackmount adaptor WJ-A01.
.

WJ-140N

WJ-140N is a pulse distribution amplifier which receives, reshapes, and distributes HD or VD pulse into six identical isolated outputs. It is also provided with input loop through circuit. Always two sets are necessary in pairs to distribute HD and VD pulses. It can be mounted into a standard 19" rack with optional rackmount adaptor WJ-A01.

5. VIDEO DISTRIBUTION AMPLIFIER
WJ-300N

WJ-300 is a video distribution amplifier which is designed to distribute video signals in color or monochrome system. Video input selector switch allows WJ-300 to distribute video signal in two different ways; one video input signal results in six identical isolated video output signals or two different video signals result in three each identical isolated video output signals. It can be mounted into a standard 19" rack with optional rackmount adaptor WJ-A01.
.

6. JUNCTION BOX
WJ-901N

WJ-901 is a junction box for conversion of connectors. 10-pin connector is converted to four UHF connectors (Video, Lineview, HD, VD), one 4-pin connector (Tally/Intercom) and one 6-pin connector (HD, VD/Tally/lntercom). It can be mounted into a standard 19" rack with optional rackmount adaptor WJ-A01.

7. CABLE LOSS COMPENSATOR
WV-621 N

WV-621 is designed to compensate attenuation of high frequency component of video signal, when video signal is transmitted in long distance. Two position distance selector switch enables WV-621 to provide sharp and clear picture; video signal can be transmitted up to 980m at "S" position and up to 1,550m at "L" position with coaxial cable 10C-2V (RG-11/U).
.

C) TIME LAPSE VIDEO TAPE RECORDER
NV-8030

The NV-8030 time lapse video tape recorder is especially designed for closed circuit security applications. Its true time lapse system records 10, 20, 40 or 80 [9, 18, 72 or 108] hours of black-and-white pictures on a single 7" reel (732m) of 1/2" video tape. The VTR can also operate at the normal 163.22 mm/sec [7 1/2 i.p.s.] speed [in accordance with the EIAJ #1 black-and-white standard VTR's].

An outstanding feature of the NV-8030 is its ability to record and play back perfect still frames by means of its 1 SHOT mode. It can record a single picture (one TV field) manually (by closing the 1 FIELD button) or by external control (by closing a switch connected to the 1 SHOT input terminals). This mode permits highly efficient information storage using the video tape medium. In fact, the VTR's maximum recording time can be greatly extended in the 1 SHOT mode by using a timer to provide momentary contact closure at specified intervals: for example, closure at 14.4 [12] second intervals yields a recording time of about one month.

This feature makes the NV-8030 an excellent replacement for film in scientific research applications that require time lapse photography. The 1 SHOT mode can be used for still frame playback, for detailed analysis of recorded material. The VTR plays back a single picture when the 1 FIELD button is pressed.

Pressing the button again advances the tape to the next field. The 1/3 FIELD button may be used to eliminate any picture noise on the screen and obtain a perfect still frame picture. Users with sophisticated security systems will appreciate NV-8030's alarm system. Designed to mate with National's WJ-510 Auto Alarming Sequential Switcher, it can also be used with its own alarm sensors.
.

Alarm sensors, such as door, window or mat switches, are connected directly to the VTR alarm input or indirectly via the WJ-510. When one of these switches is closed, the VTR goes into the alarm mode and automatically speeds up to 1.2H or 10H [1H or 9H] (switchable) to record in greater detail. A front panel alarm light goes on, and the alarm output allows external devices such as warning lights and buzzers to be used.

After approximately 3 or 6 [2.5 or 5] minutes (switchable), the VTR will then resume its original recording speed automatically. It can also be externally or manually reset. Even though the VTR will again be recording at its original speed, the alarm indicator and alarm output remain on. This is important. Suppose an alarm is tripped while the security guard is making his rounds. He later returns to the VTR to find the alarm light on. He will know that at some time in the past an alarm had been set off. Until the tape has been searched completely, however, the guard will not know when or why the alarm was set off. Searching the tape conventionally could take hours - even days - at original speed! But the unique alarm memory feature makes it possible for the NV-8030's tape to be searched in a matter of minutes.
